How does the Lightstay system cotribute to Hilton's sustainability efforts

LightStay has been introduced in 2009 at the Hilton with the purpose to measure and manage the impact of the environment on the hotel group.  The desired parameters were set to monitor and manage environmental impacts on the Group.

Reports indicate the environmental footprints such as energy, carbon, water, and waste analysis during operations in the group, and individually hotels.  This supports managing decision to reduce carbon footprints. (Lightstay, 2015)

Is "going digital in motion picture production a strategic information system for the motion picture industry?  Why or why not?  Provide examples to support your answer?

Information systems was developed to enhance the overall company operation. The IS summarises data and information to support management in their decision-making process.  The reason is to support budgeting, give the company an advantage over other companies, help the company focus on specific products, work with other companies, and improve the quality of their service. (BINUS, 2020).

‘Going Digital” in motion picture production was introduced in early 80’s when Sony marketed their “electronic cinematography” (DeGuzman, 2022).  Since then, change has been dramatic, and filmmakers rarely use film anymore – e.g., images are now manipulated on computers (not a film being cut).  Disney has become the first studio to bypass the middleman in streaming movies, delivering directly to the viewer in pay per view movies ( (Hennig-Thurau,, Ravid, & Sorenson, 2021)

Is 'going digital' in the motion picture industry a strategic information system for the National Association for Theatre Owners? Why or why not? Provide examples to support your answer.

Information systems are developed to achieve a competitive edge over other companies.  NATO is an association of theatre owners – in that sense each owner and his theatre could potentially have their own Information system, as it consists of the major chains as well as independent ones.  Would innovation and development lead to the demise of big screens and theatres?  People already would rather watch Netflix than pay to go watch a movie on the big screen?

Given your answers to questions 3 and 4 above, what should the motion picture industry do?
Motion pictures should follow the latest trends and innovations, otherwise they will become obsolete – an article in BBC.Com already asks the question: is the US film industries’ certainties crumbling?”  (Barber, 2023).  They must invent new experiences to entice people to watch a new movie – we have seen the umpteenth new “Top Gun” movie in progress.  Riding on the wave of the success of the franchise.  Post-COVID fear of empty movie houses, has sparked new technologies such as iBeacon, developed by Apple, to enhance the whole “going to the movies” experience, or LEDinside (basically showing the movie from “behind the screen as opposed to a projector from the back enhances the quality of the movie. ‘Cinity’ was introduced during the first showing of the new Avatar film, also enhancing the picture on so many platforms.  Streaming platforms are at a turning point – delivering directly to the viewer on pay as you watch movies. (Julian, 2022)

Can you think of another example where a strategic information system in one company (or industry) can harm another company (or industry)?

All IS are based on business strategies, based on organisational and information strategy.  The consequences of business strategies are intended or unintended, and only short term.  The competitor will soon outmanoeuvre or out-plan the organisation’s advantage

Still on the hotel chain groups – the Marriott International hotel group has opted to have a check-in kiosk in their lobbies – guest will check in and receive room keys from a machine, which will ultimately also do the billing and customer relations.  This would enhance their service but would take the personal touch away – such as talking to a concierge. Differentiating what a customer are experiencing in the hotel group.  This could harm the hospitality industry by decreasing jobs.

High end Mercedes class have computing programs like a personal computer.  Good in the sense of some features but does harm the automotive industry.
