1. Provide two specific examples of why it was so important for Jetstar to adopt an information communication technology such as Microsoft Lync.

 Jetstar decided it was time to upgrade their communication system to give them an advantage in the airline business. A new carrier, Tiger Airways was introduced and the need for a central management system arose.  The plan was also to roll out to Asia/Pacific, which meant offices in both continents, different languages, time sones etc.  The solution was Microsoft’s Lync Server – enabling them to connect regardless of where their employees were.  They opted to use Microsoft Lync Server (Crozier, 2018)

Microsoft Lync is a communication tool to enhance messaging, voice communication, and video conferencing and integrating it with e-mails and other apps.  Jetstar has been a forerunner in the implementation of many new technologies.  These technologies have made it possible for Jetstar employees to connect anyplace in the world to their own computer and phone – providing the company with flexibility to work in different locations such in Australia and Asia. (Mitchell, 2018).  Giving them much more freedom and mobility.

The Lync Server is a pay as you go service, users do not need to have end-licenses to operate Jetstar’s programs.  Apple iOS, Android, Windows, or Nokia all supported Microsoft Lync.  Integrating with other products enhances meeting tools, conferences. 

 

 

2. Provide two specific benefits that companies like Jetstar can experience by using information and communication technologies.

The benefits of using the latest information and communications technologies changes the way customers experience the service.  better technologies provide faster speed and connectivity.  Meaning they have an advantage over their competition.  It also allows for greater reliability and security. Customers also expect instantaneous confirmation of their bookings, ticket deliveries etc.  real-time information on flight info is a huge benefit for customers – giving them bigger control over their flight experience. (Applegate, 2019)

Using advance Eye tracking technology, JetStar together with JCDecaux – determine dream destinations for their customers.  Eye movement of passers-by are monitoring data gathered is used to plan their Christmas sale for instance.  Giving them a bigger advantage to grab a certain market. (Jetstar, 2009).
