Information Systems in PIRSA

PIRSA (Department of Industries and Regions) is an agency of the Government of South Australia responsible for economic management of the region’s Industries and Agribusiness.  They generate a revenue of about 15 billion and employ around 74000 full time employees! (PIRSA,2022)

It is understandable that such a large organization needs an exceptional Information system to organize and control information, leasing, licensing and development of policies and legislations.  The Primary Industries Information Management System (PIMS) was developed specifically to support PIRSA in governance of their varied resources. (Gray, Issa, Pye, Troshani, & et.al, 2015)

The Fisheries department have many laws that regulate the industry, such as size limits, where and when people can fish, protection of the environment etc.  PIMS makes it possible for digital reporting and a public register.  Further support is given through the ability to provide a platform for research and publications, as well as documents and information to the public and employees.
