WEEK 6 - Chapter 4

Three fundamental principles of a network are important – they do not operate in isolation; exchange of the data is an advantage to the user and the exchange is not limited to any geographical distance.

The network is the system that connects all the computers and devices, so that information can be shared.  It can be on a small (local area network) or large scale (Wide area Network) depending on geographical location of the company assets.

The fundamental of the network is the way the signals are transmitted in a network – either analogue(waves) or digital (Pulses) has to travel through the communication channel, which could be a cable or be broadcasted.

The internet is the “network” connecting all networks.  It isn’t a single entity, connected by  electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies to disseminate data to users.

This data is accessible by the user through different network applications such as discovery, communication etc.
